Payments Were Not Offered Directly To The IOC Members

According to the reports the payments were not offered directly to the IOC members. Jon Coates admitted that he had promised an extra $35,000 to NOCs that were represented by Kenya’s IOC member Charles Mukora and Uganda’s IOC member Francis Nyangweso. He made the offer at a dinner event on the last night before the IOC voting day.

Coates said that no payments were made and letters were handed over to the two African NOCs. Coates, who is leading the Australian official in the Olympic movement revealed that he offered the assistance of the sport to the NOCs of Kenya and Uganda. These grants were not under the breach of any IOC candidature rules.

John Coates Talks About His Big Offer To Mukora & Nyangweso

Mukora resigned from IOC in 1999 as he was accused of corruption in the investigation. However, a report by Sheridan explained that he should be expelled. If this isn’t enough many believe that Mukora was also accused of receiving some payments in his bank account.

John Coates talked about a big offer to Mukora and Nyangweso. He was the president of the Australian Olympic Committee at that time. According to John, the Ugandan and Kenyan members were hesitant to deal with him as he was the President.

When he sat at a big table at a prominent hotel the night before the deal others felt nervous .He just went over and talked to them that they must give their vote for us. When they were about to get up he had $50,000 for both National Olympic Committees.
