(Washington Insider Magazine)-ALAMEDA COUNTY, California (Transatlantic Today) – After reportedly killing a married couple at their California residence, a sheriff’s deputy handed himself in, according to officials.
The double killing at a Dublin residence early on Wednesday is allegedly the work of an off-duty Alameda Sheriff’s Department officer, who then allegedly fled the scene. The deputy’s weapon, which the sheriff’s office stated they were trying to collect after he dumped it in a rural location, is the alleged murder weapon.
After the shooting, which resulted in a statewide manhunt, the sheriff’s office issued a warning that the accused, 24-year-old Devin Williams, Jr., should be deemed as armed and dangerous.
Williams apparently contacted the office earlier that day to turn himself in, and was recently brought into custody in Coalinga, many hours south, according to Head Garrett Holmes, a commander with the sheriff’s office and the chief of police services for the city of Dublin.
Williams was being transported back to Dublin by deputies, according to Alameda County Lt. Ray Kelly, who was speaking to the media. It is unknown at this moment whether the suspect has a lawyer who can comment on his behalf.
A 911 caller reported an invader “brandishing a firearm” after breaking into the house at 12:45 a.m., according to Holmes. According to ABC NEWS, two persons were eventually shot and later declared dead.
According to Kelly, there were 6 people in the house at the time of the attack, including a kid and the 2 victims. A “key eyewitness” is a member of the family who was there at the incident.
A 58-year-old male and a 42-year-old woman were the victims, according to Kelly. Their names have not yet been made public by authorities. Despite his lack of more information, he claimed that the couple had a kid together.
Kelly stated that they are looking into Williams’ connection to the victims as well as the shooting’s possible purpose.
According to Kelly, Williams has been employed by the sheriff’s office for a year. After graduating from the police academy, he participated in a field training officer programme in Stockton before submitting an application to become a sheriff’s deputy, Kelly said. Williams said that he was dismissed because he failed his probation to become a single police officer.
Kelly stated that Williams was a “very good candidate” for enforcement agencies and that the organization is “in shock.”
