Russia (Washington Insider Magazine)— Politician Oleg Matveychev of Russia said that the detention of former US President Donald Trump may lead to a “civil war” in the US. Matveychev, a supporter of President Vladimir Putin and a member of the Russian State Duma made these comments on the state-run television network Russia-1. The Russian Media Monitor, founded by journalist Julia Davis, posted a clip of his TV interview to YouTube on Saturday “to combat Russian propaganda.”

Trump’s Guilty Verdict and Possible Jail Time

These remarks were made after a New York jury’s 34-count conviction of Trump for manipulating company records Russian politician Oleg Matveychev cautioned that the arrest of former US President Donald Trump could lead to a “civil war” in the United States, according to Newsweek,

 Potential Impact on American Society

Matveychev warned that imprisoning Trump, whom he described as “the most popular man,” could discredit American institutions and lead to severe unrest or even civil war. He suggested that such a development would signal an evolution toward a totalitarian regime in the United States.

 Reactions from MAGA Supporters

The term “civil war” has also surfaced among Trump’s supporters following the verdict. Political commentator Joey Mannarino declared on social media that “The Civil War just began,” while conservative commentator Tim Pool simply wrote “war.” Protests outside Trump Tower in Manhattan featured supporters predicting that Trump’s arrest could incite civil conflict or even World War III.

 Broader Implications

In the video shared by Russian Media Monitor, Matveychev, who was sanctioned by the UK in 2022 due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, stated that imprisoning Trump would violate fundamental norms of the American system, potentially transforming the US into what he termed a “fascist nation.”

 Judicial Process

In criminal trials like Trump’s, the jury determines the verdict, while the judge decides the sentencing. Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention where he is expected to accept the GOP nomination for president.
