Israel (Washington Insider Magazine) – Tensions between Israel and Iran have reached new heights, raising fears of a full-scale regional conflict. Israel has vowed to respond to Iran’s massive missile barrage launched late Tuesday, while Tehran has warned that any retaliation will be met with “multiplied intensity.”
The missile attack—comprising nearly 200 projectiles—was Iran’s response to the assassinations of key Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Tehran had made a “big mistake” and that the attack “will not go unanswered.”
The United States has thrown its support behind Israel, with President Joe Biden’s administration warning Iran of “serious consequences.” Meanwhile, Iran’s military leadership has cautioned Washington against intervening. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi contacted European officials, reaffirming that any Israeli retaliation would trigger an even “tougher” response from Tehran.
As diplomatic efforts struggle to contain the crisis, the UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting to address the escalating situation. However, hostilities continue unabated.
In Lebanon, Hezbollah fighters clashed with Israeli troops near the village of Odaisseh—the first face-to-face combat since 2006. Israel has expanded its military operations against Hezbollah, deploying additional troops and intensifying air and ground offensives.
With the war in Gaza already destabilizing the region, concerns are mounting that the conflict could spiral into a larger, multi-front war involving Iran and its allied groups across the Middle East.
