Dwumfour, a 30-year-old Republican, was found dead in her white Nissan SUV after it crashed near the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex in Sayreville, ABC News reported.
Multiple Gunshot Wounds
The councilwoman was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities told the outlet. Some locals told RLS Media that a gunman was seen running onto the Garden State Parkway, the highway that runs alongside the complex. No other details about the shooting were released.
Dwumfour, who also worked for a Nigeria-based religious group, appeared to be the intended target, authorities said, stressing that there was no obvious motive for the crime at the time.
The young politician graduated from William Paterson University (Wayne, New Jersey) with a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies. She was a business analyst for Fire Congress Fellowship Inc., a nonprofit community assistance group, and a part-time EMT.
