Shooting of a Man
Nicholas Lewis, a 21-year-old man, was fatally shot last night in the backyard of his home in The Bronx (NYC).
According to the NYPD, Lewis was in the back of his home on Pratt Ave. near Strang Ave. in the Edenwald neighborhood when gunshots erupted around 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
His sister, who was at home, heard the shots and found Lewis fatally wounded in the basement hallway next to the stairs leading to the backyard. It is not clear where exactly in the home he was shot.
Paramedics took him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died. Lewis, who had no criminal record, was shot in the chest, police said.
Lewis had just returned home, police sources said. Detectives are looking into the possibility that the gunman followed him to his home before shooting him, the Daily News said.

Gun violence is rampant in New York. Hours earlier, yesterday a 12-year-old boy was arrested after a shooting that left two teenagers injured during a fight at the end of the afternoon near a secondary school in Queens (NYC).
Young people are increasingly protagonists in gun violence in New York as victims and perpetrators, particularly shootings and attacks with bladed weapons. In September an NYPD report found that recidivism among teens had risen sharply over the past five years and the number of gunmen and their underage victims had tripled in recent years.
