(Washington Insider Magazine) A 28-year-old man was accused of the murder of Sugerys Ramírez, who was burned alive inside an apartment that he was occupying illegally in Brooklyn (NYC).
Lashawn Duffie, 28, was arrested as a suspect in the murder of Sugerys Ramírez, who was burned alive inside an apartment she was squatting in Brooklyn (NYC) in November.
Both had an unspecified domestic relationship, authorities said. Duffie was charged with murder and kidnapping Tuesday in connection with the heinous murder that occurred in the early hours of November 11.
The 40-year-old woman was discovered bound, unconscious and burned inside a 2nd-story apartment in a building on Van Siclen Avenue near Fulton Street in the Cypress Hills neighborhood following a fire, police said. She was pronounced dead by EMS paramedics, the New York Post recalled.
A death certificate for Ramirez, released by the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, revealed that he died of “homicidal violence, including thermal injuries,” police said.
Apparently she was living in that apartment as a squatter. Another person suffered minor injuries in the fire but refused to receive medical attention, the FDNY said. A dozen units, including 60 firefighters and EMS personnel, responded to the emergency.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
