Julio César Chávez Jr. Questions Father’s Taxi Driver Rivals

US (Washington Insider Magazine) —Without a doubt one of the best Mexican boxers in history has been Julio César Chávez. The Tijuana native entered the ring 115 times in his career, of which 107 ended in victory, 87 of them by knockout.

However, Chávez has had many detractors throughout his extensive career, even to this day, and even one of those who has issued comments against the legendary boxer has been his own son, Julio César Chávez Jr. .

Recently, the junior in an interview for El Boxglero questioned his father’s more than 100 victories. Stating that the rivals were not completely professional and that is why he managed to achieve so many triumphs in his career.

“Hey, if that’s what I do, I’m the best. Although my dad has a record of 90 and 89-0, maybe his rivals were taxi drivers,” stated the son of the Mexican legend. Undermining his father’s record of 89 consecutive undefeated fights.

Chávez Jr. completed his comment by trying to distinguish himself from his father. “I am me, I have boxed with everyone and I am also the son of a great legend, the legend that continued at almost 40, 50 years old,” analyzed the 37-year-old boxer.

Did Julio César Chávez Sr. fight against a taxi driver?

Chávez Jr.’s comment was not made at random and the son of the legend has some reason, since the Mexican did get to fight with a person who was not 100% dedicated to sports and whose profession was being a taxi driver and he even gave him very good battle against the “Grand Champion”.

This was admitted by Chávez Sr. himself in an interview with Erik Morales some time ago. And even he admitted that he almost quit boxing after that fight. Well, his rival stood up to him despite not fully dedicating himself to boxing like him.

“I was about to retire. That taxi driver, Andrés Félix, was a very experienced fighter, a fighter who took me to the distance, I knocked him out in the sixth round, but I got so tired, I was so exhausted that I said ‘I’m not going to fight again’, fortunately they stopped the fight and I won, I wanted to continue fighting, but if I had lost I would have retired permanently,” commented Chávez Sr. on that occasion.
