Gaza (Washington Insider Magazine)— Gaza- In a significant development, more than 400 trucks carrying humanitarian aid made their way into the Gaza Strip on Monday, marking the highest daily influx since the onset of the conflict, as reported by Israeli authorities.
On April 8th, a total of 419 humanitarian aid trucks were inspected and transferred to Gaza, as disclosed by COGAT, the Israeli Army agency responsible for managing civil affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory. This surpasses the previous high of 322 trucks facilitated the day before, indicating a notable increase in aid distribution efforts.
Air transportation and overnight deliveries
In addition to the truck convoys, 258 packages containing thousands of meals were air-dropped over Gaza, supplemented by the entry of 29 food trucks into the northern Gaza Strip overnight. These combined efforts were aimed at meeting urgent humanitarian needs in the region.
Visual confirmation
COGAT substantiated the delivery of aid by publishing photos showing fully stocked food markets in northern Gaza, providing visual proof that humanitarian aid has reached the local population.
Efforts fall short of the pre-war level
While the recent increase in aid deliveries is remarkable, it falls short of pre-war levels, when up to 500 trucks entered Gaza every day. During this period, supplies of essential goods such as electricity and water were more readily available in Gaza, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing the enclave’s residents amid the conflict.
International pressure and response
According to Jpost, the increased provision of aid comes in response to international pressure, particularly from the United States. Following talks between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel committed to immediate action to improve humanitarian access in Gaza. Biden’s warning of a possible postponement of US support underscored the urgency of addressing the welfare of the civilian population and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers.
Acceleration after the tragedy
The acceleration of aid deliveries follows a tragic incident in which seven employees of the World Central Kitchen organization were killed in an Israeli attack. The incident, which was attributed to a mix-up and breaches of military protocol, led to increased efforts to intensify humanitarian aid in the region.
Escalating humanitarian crisis
The increase in aid comes amid an escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. With more than 33,200 people injured and at least 31 deaths attributed to starvation, including 27 minors who have died from malnutrition and dehydration, the dire situation underscores the urgency of continued humanitarian efforts to alleviate suffering and meet urgent needs in the enclave.
