Ginni Thomas pushed Trump’s chief of staff to overturn election results

WASHINGTON (Washington Insider Magazine)  – According to text messages obtained by the Washington Post and CBS News, rightwing activist Ginni Thomas – wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas – frequently pleaded with Donald Trump’s chief of staff to help overturn the election results in the weeks before the election of 2020.

On November 10, Thomas wrote to Mark Meadows in one of the 29 texts reviewed by news organisations: “Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!… You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”

According to the Washington Post, the communications revealed Thomas’s direct route to the White House and how she exploited it to spread the “big lie” that Trump had won the election – with Meadows’ apparent approval. Meadows gave up 2,320 messages to a House committee investigating the attack on the US Capitol on January 6th.

This is a battle of good over evil, Meadows said in a message on November 24. Until the King of Kings triumphs, evil always appears to be victorious.  Don’t get tired of doing good. The battle goes on. It’s something they’ve put their career on the line for. At least, that’s how they spent their time in DC.

George Terwilliger III, Meadows’ lawyer, admitted the existence of the texts to the Post, but claimed they did not raise “legal issues.”

Thomas has not responded to a request for comment from the publication. According to the Post, she has previously stated that she doesn’t discuss her activist work with her husband, and the texts contain no mention of him or the Supreme Court.

Terwilliger and Thomas didn’t immediately respond to the Guardian’s requests for comment. The supreme court’s public information office did not respond to messages left for it.

Clarence Thomas dissented from the Supreme Court’s rejection of Trump’s election challenges in February 2021, calling the outcome “baffling,” according to the Post.

There are references to conspiracy theories in the text messages, which include 21 from Thomas and eight from Meadows. For example, Thomas emphasised a common QAnon claim that the president had watermarked particular votes as a means of detecting fraud.

She further implied that the Bidens were behind the alleged fraud. “The Biden crime family and ballot fraud co-conspirators… are being arrested and held for ballot fraud right now and in the coming days, and will be living in barges off GITMO to face military courts for sedition,” she wrote.

Thomas appeared to criticise certain Republicans in Congress for not being fully committed to Trump. “The folks in the House and Senate are also pathetic… “Only four GOP House members have been seen at grassroots rallies,” she stated in a message on November 10th, later adding that night, “Where the heck are all those who benefitted by President’s coattails?!!!”

Other texts include lawyers and conservative commentators who backed Trump, including Sidney Powell, who Thomas reportedly wanted to be “the face” of Trump’s legal team. Powell was behind a slew of lawsuits aiming to overturn the election, and the Texas State Bar Association is investigating him for allegedly making fraudulent statements in court. Even as Powell became a contentious figure in pro-Trump circles, Thomas showed repeated support for her, according to the Post. On November 13, she tweeted, “Sidney Powell and improved cooperation now will assist the cavalry come and Fraud revealed and America saved.”

“Listen to Rush. In another message, Thomas advised Meadows to “Mark Steyn, Bongino, Cleta,” presumably referring to Dan Bongino Mark Steyn, Rush Limbaugh and along with Cleta Mitchell, the lawyer who backed Trump’s claims in Georgia.

“I will stand firm. We will fight until there is no fight left,”Meadows responded, “Our country is far too precious to be given up on. Thank you for everything you do.”

Thomas has admitted to attending Trump’s rally prior to the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, however she claims she departed before the then-president spoke. She was outraged by the subsequent violence.
