Russia (Washington Insider Magazine) -This week, Russia’s missile strikes on Kyiv have drawn strong condemnation, particularly after a tragic attack on the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital, Ukraine’s largest pediatric facility. The hospital was severely damaged in the assault, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring many others. Overall, the recent strikes across Ukraine claimed the lives of 36 people and left 140 injured.

The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) has voiced its outrage over the “horrific scenes” emerging from the attack. In an official statement, the organization condemned Russia’s military tactics targeting vulnerable populations, stating, “Russia’s military targeting of children, hospitals, and healthcare facilities is appalling.” They expressed deep sympathy for those affected, particularly the most vulnerable patients, healthcare professionals, and families.

The ECO emphasized that this attack strengthens their commitment to supporting cancer patients and healthcare workers in Ukraine. They are actively monitoring the situation and consulting with partners in the region to understand the emerging needs arising from the conflict. “We will continue to collaborate closely with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) through our Emergencies & Crises Network of over 400 organizations worldwide to leverage global support for Ukraine’s health and cancer care systems,” they added.

The organization unequivocally labeled the attacks on healthcare facilities as war crimes and called for immediate action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. In their efforts to advocate for Ukraine, ECO intends to communicate with the new European Parliament and European Commission, reiterating the urgent need for sustained financial support for the country’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly for the maintenance and reconstruction of cancer services.

ECO concluded with a powerful message: “Humanity must triumph over barbarity, and we all must play our part in achieving that.”

In response to the backlash, Russia has denied targeting the hospital, claiming it was struck by fragments from a Ukrainian air defense missile. However, Ukrainian officials insist they found remnants of a Russian cruise missile at the scene.

This latest episode of violence highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, particularly concerning vulnerable populations, and reinforces the urgent need for international solidarity and support for those affected by the conflict.
