(Washington Insider Magazine) The body of a 13-year-old girl washed up on the shore of Brooklyn Bridge Park yesterday, where it apparently washed away. The minor suffered from bipolar disorder and had disappeared on Sunday.
The body of a 13-year-old girl washed up on the banks of Brooklyn Bridge Park on the East River yesterday, the New York police reported.
The girl’s body was discovered near the Fulton Ferry Landing pier in Brooklyn Heights around 8:25 a.m. Monday, the Daily News reported. The unidentified minor suffered from bipolar disorder and had disappeared on Sunday, according to police sources.
She was already dead when paramedics arrived and had no obvious signs of trauma, so police don’t believe she was the victim of a crime. The city medical examiner has yet to determine her cause of death.
A passerby made the shocking discovery and found the girl face down on the bank of the East River not far from Furman Street, according to police. Investigators believe the girl was swept there by the water, the New York Post reported.
In recent months several adult corpses have been found in New York parks. At the end of 2022, a partially decomposed male corpse was found on a park path in the Bronx (NYC).
That finding came just days after a doctor was found dead with his throat slit in Marcus Garvey Park, Harlem, Manhattan.
Additionally, several bodies were found during the past year in green areas of Manhattan, the majority in Central Park. In mid-October, an elderly man was found dead in a pond, days after the partially decomposed body of a young man was discovered floating in a lake near 79th Street and West Drive, with no signs of crime.
And last July the death of a Latino homeless youth was ruled a homicide nearly 10 months after his body was found with a noose around his neck in Central Park, giving the initial impression that he had committed suicide.
