(Washington Insider Magazine)-The climate crisis continues. With record-high temperatures sweeping much of the country this week, President Biden vowed to act on the issue of climate change if Congress fails to take any meaningful action in the upcoming weeks.
In his speech on July 20th, President Biden referred to the climate crisis as an emergency that presents clear and present danger and that he will use the power of the presidency to take action.
He alluded to plans to implement massive wind farms to harness wind energy but never declared a full array of what a proposal might look like.
His proposed climate packages recently suffered several setbacks, but the White House is still confident that they could strike a last-minute deal before Biden’s executive order takes shape.
Temperatures reached 115 degrees in Texas, and places around the country are feeling the heat which prompted heat advisory alerts in 28 states.
Some climate and environmental experts thought that Biden didn’t fully convince them that he was going to take action on the growing threat of climate change and its effect on American citizens.
Melinda Pierce, director of the Sierra Club, called for the President to take swift and immediate action that makes people understand the immediate threat of climate change.
Without much progress on passing Biden’s climate package, the President may formally declare a climate emergency which would give the Biden administration leeway to create rules and fund climate programs.
Center to Biden’s plans on reversing climate change is to build offshore wind farms off the coast of Texas and Louisiana which would power nearly 3 million homes in the area.
Implementing these wind farms will not only power millions of homes in the area but will also reduce over 78 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from our atmosphere.
However, we still don’t know if the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions is feasible without the energy tax credits Democrats wanted to have passed this year.
Climate experts criticized Biden for not showing enough urgency in the climate change issue. Activists want to see President Biden take forceful action by declaring a climate emergency to put this issue at the forefront of American households.
