Argentine President Javier Milei to Meet with Tech Giants in US

Argentina (Washington Insider Magazine)— At the end of May Argentine President Javier Milei will meet with Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other leaders of Silicon Valley tech companies. Milei, who has already met twice with Tesla owner Elon Musk, also plans to meet with representatives of Apple Inc., OpenAI Inc., and Alphabet Inc.’s Google, among other technology companies, along with the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Gerardo Werthein.

Meetings with Industry Leaders

Commencing on May 27, Milei’s itinerary includes a pivotal meeting with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This visit is integral to a comprehensive initiative aimed at engaging influential leaders within the technology sector. The Argentine president revealed these strategic plans during an interview on LN+ television from Madrid, where he is concurrently conducting discussions with prominent Spanish business figures.

Strategic Engagement for Tech Development

The presidential delegation, including the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Gerardo Werthein, aims to stregnthen Argentina’s position as a center for technological innovation. The initiative is being coordinated by Demian Reidel, head of the president’s council of economic advisors. The focus is on leveraging Argentina’s favorable conditions, such as its vast development areas, cool climate, high-quality human capital, and business-friendly government.

Previous Engagements with Tech Leaders

This mission follows Milei’s recent engagements with prominent tech investors and executives. Earlier this month, Milei met with Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel in Buenos Aires. In addition, he held discussions with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, including a meeting at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles.

Milei’s Efforts to Attract Foreign Investment

Voz reported that Milei will be making his fourth trip to the United States since taking office In February, he delivered a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., and convened with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Subsequently, in April, he travelled to Miami and Texas for consultations with Elon Musk and other prominent business leaders.  Additionally, in May, he returned to Los Angeles for further talks with Musk and other attendees of the Milken Institute conference.

Economic Reforms to Revitalize Argentina

President Milei is seeking for major foreign investment to help Argentina’s faltering economy. His administration is enacting a strict fiscal policy to stabilize the country’s finances and reduce rising inflation. Milei acknowledges Argentina’s short-term issues but remains hopeful about its economic future, noting previous economic surpluses as proof of progress.

Milei’s approach has garnered international attention and praise from conservative leaders, despite facing opposition from some segments of Argentina’s political and economic sectors. The president remains committed to his economic reforms, promising a historic economic rebound for Argentina.
